COMMENCMENT OF THE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS OF DRAT BASIC ASSESSMENT REPORT SUBMITTED FOR THE APPLICATION FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION OF THE PROPOSED EXPANSION OF THE EXISTING HAWSTON WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS (WWTW) ON A PORTION OF THE REMAINING EXTENT OF ERF 1, HAWSTON, WESTERN CAPE

On behalf of the Applicant, Overstrand Municipality, notice is hereby given in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, Act 107 of 1998 ('NEMA') (as amended), the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations, 2014 (as amended), the National Water Act, Act 36 of 1998 (’NWA’), and GN R267 in GG 40713 of 24 March 2017 for an intended Environmental Authorisation (EA) and Water Use License Application (WULA) relating to the expansion of the existing Hawston Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) on a portion of the remaining extent of Erf 1, Hawston, Western Cape. This notice also serves to inform the public that the Draft Basic Assessment Report (BAR), the Adoption of a Maintenance Management Plan (MMP), including an Environmental Management Programme (EMPr), as well as the WULA Summary Report, is available for comment from 28 August 2026 – 28 September 2026.

NOTE: A 60-day comment period applies to the WULA. The details of the water uses are summarized in the WULA Summary Report which will also be made available on our website. Written comments should be submitted to Legacy EMC on or before 28 October 2026.
