The company, established on 22 May 2017, provides environmental consulting and project management services in various sectors such as the transport; utilities; social infrastructure; mining, renewable energy and nuclear industries. In this regard Legacy EMC has concluded contracts with all spheres of Government and the private sector, mainly in the Western Cape and Gauteng.
As of 1 March 2019, Legacy EMC have acquired a 100% stake in Withers Environmental Consultants (WEC). WEC was established in Stellenbosch in 1999 by Aubrey Withers, and is a well-respected name in the environmental industry.
Since the acquisition, Legacy EMC is able to offer a greater range of environmental services and with an increased service offering, 50+ years of combined experience and a larger staff compliment, we believe this acquisition will provide our clients with added value and peace of mind in respect to continuous service provision.

Kim Pontac is the Managing Director of the company and has many years relevant experience within the environmental management industry
Our Team Members
Kim has co-ordinated and managed numerous environmental processes within the public and private sectors for national and international companies. As Principle Consultant, she has successfully conducted a variety of environmental investigations and evaluations for Green and Brown Field projects.
Her core experience includes IEM and guiding projects through tendering, design, and construction, operational and decommissioning phases. Kim also has experience in environmental and social due diligence (in accordance with IFC Standards and Equator Principles), environmental compliance audits and environmental legal reviews, permitting and/ or licencing, facilitation and training, and environmental construction monitoring.
As an environmental practitioner over the past 30 years, Aubrey has written many reports dealing with diverse and complex environmental and planning projects. He has undertaken environmental planning and EIA’s for many residential projects both inland and along the coast, which included undertaking the environmental supervision of the construction phase of these developments as the appointed ECO.
Aubrey has also had extensive experience with the approvals of and construction supervision of all civil services (roads, pipelines, waste disposal facilities [including their decommissioning], waste water treatment facilities and electrical substations). He has project management experience in many multi-disciplinary projects, from their inception through to commissioning and monitoring, to ensure environmental compliance with their conditions of approval and management system recommendations. He has a practical and positive approach to environmental planning, environmental management and the implementation of all this projects which have been undertaken in a sound and sustainable way.
Aubrey has also assisted town planners with the compilation of many diverse Spatial Development Frameworks (Plans) for Municipal jurisdiction areas, and recently completed the compilation of an EMF for the jurisdiction area of the Overstrand Municipality to guide future spatial planning of their area of jurisdiction.
Her core experience includes Environmental Impact Assessments and Compliance Monitoring work for projects during construction, operation and decommissioning. Adri also has experience in Environmental Due Diligence Assessments, NEMA Section 24G applications, Pre-Compliance Notice Reporting and Compliance Auditing. Adri’s academic background has equipped her with valuable knowledge in the field of Marine and Environmental Law, and conservation practices.
Adri is an Environmental Assessment Practitioner at Legacy EMC. In addition, Adri holds a Master of Philosophy degree in Environmental Law from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Conservation Ecology from the University of Stellenbosch.
Alain’s core expertise is in the field of compliance monitoring and includes the compilation of Environmental Management Plans for various projects within the transport, construction and mining sectors. Alain was the appointed Environmental Control Officer in the Borrow Pits project which entailed the mining of gravel material for the re-gravelling and maintenance of farm roads throughout the Overberg and Central Karoo regions.
Alain holds a BSc (Honours) degree in Environmental Science from Rhodes University, and BSc degree in Environmental and Geographical Science and Oceanography and Atmospheric Sciences) from the University of Cape Town.
She has gained valuable experience in public participation working on various projects within the residential, commercial and industrial developments, renewable energy, transport and infrastructure sectors.
A crucial member of the Legacy EMC, Nosipho ensures the smooth running of the Legacy EMC operations. Nosipho holds a BTech and National Diploma in Environmental Management and a Health and Safety Management Certificate from Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
